The message taught in this parable elaborates upon the twofold impact of the kingdom of heaven. Jesus was teaching that although His kingdom would start with just a modest beginning in the world, it would grow to be the greatest of all kingdoms and provide relief that would be superior to all other kingdoms. The fowls of the air in this parable represents lost and wandering souls of men, with no hope of rest, until they enter the branches grown from the mustard seed. This same dynamic applies to an individual’s life also. The wisdom of the kingdom of heaven starts very small but eventually has preeminence in the person’s life. Therefore, this parable expresses that all what God has for man is only experienced when men totally surrender to God through Christ. There is an obvious conclusion that what the kingdom of heaven offers is far superior to what the world has to offer.

The Parable of Leaven

In the parable of the leaven the meaning has to do with the impact of the kingdom of heaven upon the “souls of men.” This parable makes two points that are repeated though out this entire discourse. One point is that it is the individual who hides the Kingdom of heaven in their soul. This point conveys the necessity of the individual accepting the offer of God to reign in their life. The second point conveyed is that the impact of the kingdom of heaven is gradual and eventually all-consuming in a person’s life.

<fieldset class="hidden-fields-container">
</fieldset>

1.
