THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

The book of Matthew presents Christ as king and is written from the perspective that Jesus is Israel’s long-awaited Messiah.  Since the days of Samuel, the people of Israel had the desire for God to give them a king who would provide for all of their needs.  In the form of parables Jesus proclaimed that He was that king.  Jesus had let men know in a previous discourse that every provision for the body would be supplied by him, to those who sought the kingdom of heaven and its’ righteousness; Matthew  6:33.  The parable of the hidden treasure explains that man’s emotional needs are met through the “joy” that the kingdom of heaven provides.  The parable of the net that was cast ensures that the kingdom of heaven provides sustenance, not only for earthly life but also, for everlasting life.  When viewed in totality these parables define God’s mysterious way of establishing his kingdom of righteous.  These parables teach that God’s righteous kingdom of heaven is first established in the hearts of men. Secondly, this kingdom is established in the world hidden from none-believers although they both   live in the same physical territory. Finally, these parables explain that the kingdom of righteousness will be established upon the earth after the final judgment when all evil has been destroyed. The overall theme of the “kingdom of Heaven” is that all of what God has for man’s eternal glory is achieved when they accept the Lordship of Jesus Christ in their soul.    The wisdom then of these parables are so dynamic that Christ described them as “keys” that the gates of hell could not prevail against.   Hallelujah
