As we examine how the Bible addresses the will in the soul of men, we learn there is a level of commitment to which a person can aspire that leads to a complete surrender of ones “will” and that allows the Holy Spirit to guide and control their life. The Bible teaches two important aspects about man’s will and his ability to surrender it unto the Holy Spirit.
1. Jesus states that an individual only has the ability to have the guidance of the Holy Spirit after accepting Him as their Savior and Lord. 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. John 14:15-16
2. Because a person has free will Jesus states that a person must “take” it upon himself to surrender to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This surrender is described as an light burden and easy yoke, in Matthew 6:29-30 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Also, in Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. As we begin to examine the awesome plan of God and His offer of salvation to mankind it is most obvious that Jesus Christ is an all-sufficient Savior. Jesus allows wretched sinners (such as us) to enter into the presence of The Most Holy God and be recognized as his children, while indwelling us with a Holy Spirit that is able to guide all men from an earth that is perishable into a glorious kingdom of everlasting life. May Christ’s name be exalted in everyone’s soul is my prayer. Amen!
